Homer and Shakespeare
“…the names of Homer and Shakespeare…” (pg. 9)
Homer is a renowned Greek poet who is most famous for writing the epic poems, the Iliad and the Odyssey. These two classic tales have helped in defining the literature of western civilization. Both poems are riddled with recurring themes including bravery, glory, resisting temptation, and revenge, all of which Shelley uses to show how temperamental the relationship between Frankenstein and his creation is.
Shakespeare is considered to be one of the greatest playwrights of all time having created such works as Hamlet, Macbeth, and Romeo and Juliet. His tragedies and comedies, which are still widely studied today, also explore many themes that are shared with Frankenstein such as corruption and betrayal.
