Cornelius Agrippa
“…the works of Cornelius Agrippa.” (pg. 33)
Cornelius Agrippa was a German scientist and philosopher who is recognized for his written works concerning topics such as magic. In his book, Of the Uncertainty and Vanity of the Sciences, Agrippa criticizes the scientific theory and practice that was accepted during his time. Living in the 16th century, his ideas and opinions were often looked upon with great skepticism, but since then many improvements and innovations have been made to his theories. Shelley references this scientist to create a scientific background for Frankenstein from which he can build off of, which eventually takes him to an area of science never before explored.
